Professional Coaching
So what exactly is professional coaching?

According to the International Coach Federation (ICF), coaching is "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential." True coaching is done by a certified professional and in a very unique way. Coaching seeks to inspire clients to become the best version of themselves, and coaches champion them along the way. It helps clients to break through what holds them back from manifesting their dreams and coaches challenge their clients to focus time on what they want to accomplish. Coaching also holds clients' agenda and help them be accountable for what they say they will do. The coaching relationship is a partnership, between the coach and the client, and the power of coaching lies within this relationship.

Coaching is NOT psychotherapy, consulting, counseling, or mentoring.

While these methods may serve a purpose, they are distinctly different from professional coaching. Psychotherapy focuses on emotions, problems, and exploring the client's past in order to understand the present. Therapists usually help their clients heal by figuring out "why." Coaching focuses on performance improvement, learning, or development in an area of life and the coach helps the client move forward by focusing on "how." Consultants have an agenda and some possible answers and bring that agenda and those answers to the client. Coaches have no agenda except to help clients get what they want. Additionally, consultants promote themselves as experts in certain aspects of life, and coaches accept that clients are the experts and have within them the answers to the challenges they face. Mentors are seen as role models who have "been there and done that" and will "show mentees the ropes", but coaches do not use their personal experiences as a model of success for clients.
